1. You feel tired or cranky

Often the first sign of being dehydrated is a cranky and tired mood. So, if your energy levels are low and it’s nowhere near meal time, you may be dehydrated. This causes fatigue, trouble with memories, and headaches. Meaning, if you ever have trouble focusing and are feeling more tired than you should, drink some water!
2. Your skin is dry

When skin cells aren’t hydrated, they appear to look rough and dry. If your lips dry up right after putting on Chapstick or your hands dry up immediately after applying lotion, you need more water! It’s important that you listen to your body.
3. You’re hungry

Oftentimes the body confuses dehydration with hunger. Meaning your mind will trick you in to seeking food, when water is what you really needed. So next time you are hungry, drink some water first!
4. You haven’t gone to the bathroom in a while

Check the clock! A hydrated adult urinates at least 5 to 7 times per day. If you are going hours between your visits to the bathroom, you may need to increase your water intake. When you drink enough water, your urine should be clear or transparent. If it is dark yellow, you may be in the dehydration zone.
5. Your journal tells you

By now you should already understand the importance of journaling. Food journaling is not meant exclusively for food. We also want you to journal your water intake. So next time you evaluate your journal, check your actual water intake vs the goals you had set for yourself. If you are halfway through the day and have only hit 10% of your daily water goal, serious changes need to be made.
