Now You Know: Alcohol And Weight-loss

A key process in the weight-loss journey for our patients is ketosis. Ketosis is a metabolic process that occurs in your body when there are no longer carbohydrates available for energy. Instead of using carbs, the body begins to burn fat for energy, allowing one to lose weight. When our patients are on our diet and going through ketosis, alcohol is strictly prohibited, and for good reason.

When alcohol is in your body, it can severely inhibit the liver from doing its job; creating glucose. Your liver would rather focus on removing the toxin (alcohol) and this can result in a lack of sugar being made for important parts of your body such as your brain. On the Mindful Living protocol your body is low on quick useable energy, because there are little carbs available.

Anyways the medical term for low blood sugar is hypoglycemia and it can cause people to pass out. While this may not happen to everybody who drinks on the diet, it can in fact happen to anybody who drinks on the diet. That is why we don’t want anybody drinking while on our protocol. We take this so seriously at the Mindful Living Institute that we even make patients sign a contract stating they will not drink alcohol during the diet. It is a safety concern and should not be taken lightly.
