Discipline can be defined as the practice of training people to obey rules or a code of behavior. It is the back bone to maintaining good health. Discipline is a result of making promises to ourselves and keeping them. This results in disciplined people having higher self esteems. Because keeping such promises allows disciplined people to crush their goals.
So what does discipline look like when living the Mindful Living lifestyle? It could be as simple as going to sleep and waking up at the same time everyday. This takes discipline because sacrifice is needed to make it happen. People must give up late night tv, entertainment, and socializing in order to sleep at the same time on weekends. Only after these sacrifices are made, is it practical to wake up at the same time daily. Discipline can also be found through exercise. If someone makes the commitment to exercise for an hour everyday, and does just that, they have discipline. It’s the act of doing what you said you were going to do, no matter what.
Discipline in the kitchen is difficult but can be developed through the Mindful Living program. Sometimes this discipline can be interpreted as boring or overly ridgid. For example eating the same healthy protein and vegetables everyday could be seen as boring. While this may be true, it’s important to understand boring and rigid diet plans are more predictable and lead to better results.
So how does one develop self discipline? It starts with small habits. Do not try to do everything at once. Start with something simple and manageable. Making your bed everyday could be a small habit that triggers you into living a more disciplined and rigid lifestyle. Master one habit at a time and then stack these habits on top of each other.
