What the Weight-loss World Can Learn From Hip-Hop?

The ability to learn from different industries is what separates exceptional professionals from their average peers. Today we want to look at what the weight-loss industry could learn from the music industry. We are going to look at a recent case study of Hip-Hop legends Drake and Future’s decision to cast their very own audience and fan base in their upcoming music video.

The music video will be filmed in Atlanta, Georgia on December 17th and 18th. The superstar team well known for the album “What A Time To Be Alive” are absolute geniuses for getting their audience involved in their production efforts.

The open casting call is seeking people of all genders and ethnicities to play as extras in the video. Opening the floodgates for fans to get involved in the art led the internet to go crazy about the project. You must be thinking, “What the heck does this have to do with weight-loss?"

Well if you are in the weight-loss business and are looking to get new clients, you should be taking notes. Rather you should be doing to same exact thing! Assuming you already have a social media strategy, you should capitalize on the lack of transparency in our industry. The weight-loss niche is full of manipulative salespeople, false promises, and scams. The average person would be cynical towards building a company within an industry with such a crummy reputation.

But you are reading this! So that means you are far from average! You can set yourself apart from the rest of the industry by making transparency a core value of your marketing mix. This means stop promoting ‘Before and After’ photos. Rather focus on promoting the journey of how your clients are losing weight.

This seems complicated, but it’s not. Focus less on creating content and spend more time documenting the clients process. The best way to do so is through filming client coaching sessions and then editing them into short videos to put online.  This process benefits everybody. It empowers your clients to stay on protocol because they will be held accountable to their viewership. It will help your social media audience get a better understanding of what you do and how you can help them. Lastly it will certainly help your business set itself apart from the countless tricksters in the weight-loss industry.

Our Germantown clinic is doing a holiday give away where we are giving 5 clients a free lifetime membership if they let us document and film their visits. Should you decide to follow our footsteps, be sure to get any client you post to sign a media consent form!
