Giving Patients All Their Treatment Options

Updated: Sep 1, 2019

Self-awareness is a word that needs to be used more in the medical weight-loss community. If medical providers spent less time preaching their own values as irrefutable truths and more time promoting self-awareness among patients, bariatric medicine would evolve. The core belief to this thesis is that there is no “one size fits all” treatment plan. Rather it is the providers job to offer the full continuum of care and help the patient discover which option works best for them. With the Mindful Living Institute, we do our best to offer a full range of treatments for patients diagnosed with Obesity. Such treatments include:

Access to medications:

Our team is educated on the pharmacology of the following drugs approved for obesity. It is important to note that not all weight-loss medications work well for everyone. There may be some trial and error before we figure out which is the best choice for you.

1. Saxenda

2. Contrave

3. Belviq

4. Qsymia

5. Xenical – also approved for over-the-counter use as Alli

Meal replacements and Keto Modified:

Eating packaged physician approved meal replacements makes weigh loss much more predictable. This is because there is no room for human error when measuring ingredients. For that reason, what you see on the label is what you get. We cannot say the same about the regular food you eat because there is no set portion control. Rather the portion size is at the discretion of the consumer. We suggest you plug the meal replacements you choose into the Mindful Living protocol. As you progress through the diet, we will adjust it according to your body composition analysis values.

Referral to bariatric surgeon

Having a physician in our corner who is board certified in Obesity Medicine makes all avenues of treatment possible. If you and Dr. Kaur feel surgery is the best route, then we are happy to prepare you for it. Before you book your surgery its important you understand the ways life can be different after surgery. We would like to adequately prepare you for the rest of your life!

Cooking and Keto Modified:

Some of our most successful patients never touched a meal replacement. Rather they followed all the principles of ketomodified.com and met with Dr. Kaur weekly. It is important to know that this route is often much more difficult as it requires more cooking and patience. Cooking for yourself is great if you who have time to cook fun new recipes. It is not meant for busy people who are usually on the go.

Editors Note: *One thing we want you to keep in mind is that most patients will combine treatment methods. Because they often complement each other. For example, it’s very common to combine medications and meal replacements. Also, people who are preparing for their surgery often eat tons of meal replacements. It is very rare that people stick to only one style of treatment. Take this information to your Doctor and find a treatment plan or combination of plans that work best for you!*
