Now You Know: Torch Ruck, Weight-loss, and Safety

Updated: Feb 27, 2019

As you probably know by now, your health is our number one priority. With this in mind you must understand that health and safety go hand in hand. It is hard to be healthy when you are not even safe. For this exact reason we believe anybody trying to lose weight should be monitored. Keeping an eye on dieters ensures minimal muscle loss and a greater sense of safety.

Coaches are the ones who monitor dieters though their journey. We know this works as we do it with all of our patients. But what about when we send them to go exercise? Exercising is extremely beneficial when done correctly. However, it can also be very dangerous if proper form and adequate rest are not followed. We understand people on weight-loss programs are usually new to exercising. We encourage these people to get moving but want to make sure they do so in a safe manner.

The safest exercise a dieter can do is walk. There are many other things they can do to exercise but walking is usually the starting point for most of our dieters. Check this post out if you would like to learn more about the benefits of walking. Walking on the treadmill however can get boring and walking alone outside can be dangerous.

With all this in mind we decided to partner with Torch Ruck. Torch ruck is a free community club where people walk together. These walks or “rucks” vary in intensity and length. The reason they are called rucks is because people carry their “rucksack” or backpack during the walk. Some people even choose to put weights in their backpack but don’t worry this is completely optional! For more information on rucking click here.

Walking in a group is already a much safer alternative to walking alone. But that’s not enough. The reason we have decided to partner with Torch Ruck is because their “rucks” are led by police officers, military officers, and other public safety servants. This provides an added layer of security and peace of mind to anyone “rucking” with us. Our next event is Sunday March 3rd. The ruck will be starting at CrossFit Frederick at 10:30 am. We will be doing free weigh-ins and providing protein samples to anyone interested at the event. Click here to rsvp to the event!
